The land and its seasons, the cycles of life, the enduring bonds
of community - these are the themes of Jaiya’s music. Jaiya
is a Sanskrit word meaning both “life,” and “triumph.”
Jaiya’s songs remind us that we are creatures of earth.
Our hearts beat to the rhythms of nature. Our bodies ebb and flow
with the same tides that mark the hours and seasons. What we all
share as dwellers on this sweet, fragile planet far outweighs
our differences.
The members of Jaiya live on a small island off the coast of
British Columbia where deer, otter, seals, orcas, bald eagles,
and many other species of wildlife still thrive. Miranda
Brown, Kim Darwin and Lael
Whitehead are multi-instrumentalists who collaborate on writing
and arranging their original music.

They weave stirring female vocal harmonies with
harp, piano, accordion, guitar, flutes, and percussion. Their
poetry invites listeners to come back home: to be here, now, on
this living, breathing earth we all share.
Jaiya was formed in 2003. Since then, the band has released two
albums, Firedance: Songs for Winter Solstice,
and Beltane: Songs for the Green Time. In January
2008 they will release their third album, entitled "Invocation: Songs for a Sacred Earth".
